What would you do if you time traveled to your childhood and met your younger self?
— A bittersweet and brutally honest coming-of-age story of a 9-year-old Chinese girl, her future self, and many birds!
★“This is so magical and vulnerable and original and THEATRICAL!… It’s rare for me to read a script that’s both this experimental and this full of joy and hope.” — Jeremy Gable
★“This story really hit home for me.” — Aurora McClennan
★"Meeting your inner child with all their pain, sorry and joy." — MaryKate Glenn

Becoming WHO U ARE by returning to WHO U WERE…
Not your regular coming-of-age story, Birds and the Curiosity creates a magical meet-up between two selves at different points in time: 9-year-old Zhigeng and adult Zhigeng. By depicting an adult’s re-tackling of formative memories from her early childhood, the story reflects on a child’s experience of joy, heartache, friendship, humiliation, loss, creative agency, family and talking hamsters.
The script blends the unvarnished nature of childhood, the harsh reality of adult life, and the dream-like quality of memories by integrating dance, puppetry, and shadow play. The audience enters a kid’s imaginative world.
