SPRING AWAKENING, winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, triumphantly returns to Los Angeles in a concert-styled presentation.
Produced by glory|struck, this heartbreaking story coupled with its pulsing folk-rock score is still as poignant today as it was when it premiered off, and on, Broadway in 2006. More notably, the source material and play upon which this is all based, with its themes of teen suicide, pregnancy, sexuality and identity, is just as titillating as it was when conceived in 1891, thereafter being banned for being too salacious a piece of work.
This theatre-concert hybrid focuses sharply on the music, recalling the energy of an East Village music lounge as opposed to a traditional 'uptown' venue. Audiences will be left with art in its purist, most unadulterated form: the music and the message.
With ever increasing pressures for teens, we hear too often a tragic case of one who succumbs to their inner turmoil – Their bullying. Their wounds. Their voices lost to the world as a whisper. These are the kids that need to hear this story.
Performances will raise the volume of awareness for the Love is Louder movement.
