November 12, 2004…Hollywood…Indefatigable Productions is thrilled to announce that the world premiere, critically-acclaimed production of LETTING GO OF GOD, written, directed and performed by Julia Sweeney, will extend for four more weeks through Sunday December 19th at the Hudson BackstageTheatre, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood.
LETTING GO OF GOD is one of very few shows that have received the triple crown of Los Angeles theatre accolades; Los Angeles Times’ CRITICS’ CHOICE; LA Weekly’s PICK OF THE WEEK andBackstage West’s CRITIC’S PICK honors!
LETTING GO OF GOD is Julia’s most personal work to
date. It chronicles her unexpected and hilarious journey when two Mormon missionary boys arrive on her doorstep. They inadvertently challenge her way of thinking about religion, God, and the nature of self. She ultimately leaves the Catholic church in which she was raised and which she loves deeply, and
tentatively and reluctantly journeys down her own spiritual path and comes to conclusions which surprise almost everyone, especially herself. LETTING GO OF GOD is a comical and poignant story of a woman’s struggle with faith in our modern, scientific era.
With the exception of her countless appearances at Beth Lapides UN-CABARET, Julia was last seen performing on the Los Angeles stage in her critically-acclaimed hit, IN THE FAMILY WAY at the Groundling’s theatre which came off a successful Off-Broadway run at the Ars Nova Theatre in New York. Prior to IN THE FAMILY WAY, Julia had written and performed in GOD SAID, HA! at the CoronetTheatre which went to the Lyceum Theatre on Broadway after her L.A. run. Writer, performer, thinker Julia Sweeney appeared as a Saturday Night Live cast member for four seasons. During that time, she introduced and popularized the beloved gender-neutral character “Pat.” Her film credits include PULP
FICTION, CLOCKSTOPPERS, STUART SAVES HIS FAMILY, STUART LITTLE and the infamous IT’S PAT. Julia appeared in two episodes of the final season of FRASIER and also starred in and consulted on multiple episodes of the HBO hit series, SEX AND THE CITY.
LETTING GO OF GOD is produced by Pamela Keller. The sound design is by Drew Dalzell. The lighting design is by Steven Young.
LETTING GO OF GOD will continue through Sunday, May 27th at the Hudson Backstage Theatre, 6539 Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Sundays at 3:00pm. Ticket prices are $25.00 for all performances. Student and senior
