POONAM BASU (Director) Poonam Basu is thrilled to be directing the revised version of Shyam Bhatt’s moving one-woman show, Treya’s Last Dance. An Equity performer herself, Poonam has appeared in over 25 stage productions in NY, LA, Boston, Phoenix, Madrid, and Regensburg, including Riot Grrrl Saves the World at Hollywood Fringe 2014, for which she was nominated for a Golden Performer award. While studying Educational Children’s TV at NYU, Poonam wrote and directed a segment in a children’s sketch comedy show called LAMP TV. Before making the move out West, Poonam choreographed a full length musical for the stage, Rented Christmas, the Musical, giving her an enticing taste of professional theater from the other side of the curtain. Since being in LA, Poonam has appeared on Parks and Recreation, Baskets, Bad Judge, The Young and the Restless, Splitting Up Together, and most recently, The Uglydolls Movie. She has produced six short films, two of which she wrote, and one of which just won Best Experimental Film at the Vegas Movie Awards. Poonam is very excited to bring her creativity and diverse background to Shyam’s poignant, layered, and downright hilarious piece.

JANA DIMITRI (Production Assistant) Jana is an actress and writer who hails from Syracuse, New York, where as a child, she spent her summers putting on and hosting talent shows with her best friend. She continued on to perform in plays and musicals which lead her to seriously consider acting upon graduating university. Her recent experience has been on screen performing in dramatic shorts and a comedic feature. She enjoys writing stories, playing guitar, and making people laugh with her infectious energy. She currently is studying at The Groundlings Theater in Los Angeles, CA and is excited to develop her improvisational skills.

Jana is delighted to work on Treya's Last Dance which explores cultural identity because being a first generation American she has close ties to her ethnic roots. During a time where change is happening, discrimination is still at the forefront, and TLD brings awareness in a poignant yet comedic manner.
