MALAYA (Angel) is making her theatrical debut in Dope Queens, but is no stranger to Hollywood, with appearances in film and television such as Warner Bros.’ Batman and Robin directed by Joel Schumacher, Do You Wanna Dance directed by Michael A. Nickles, and HBO’s Arli$$ to name a few. Malaya’s mother brought eight out of ten of her siblings from Vietnam to give them a better life in the U.S. She started performing for family and friends as early as five years old and then eventually doing talent shows whenever she had the opportunity at school. Malaya was 15 when she performed in The Music Man. Scholarships opened the door for her to venture out of Denver to Los Angeles where she was able to dive deeper into her craft, training at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, The Professional Actors Workshop, Scott Sedita’s Acting Studios, The Groundlings, and Mariko Ballentine’s Casting Workshop. Malaya is also a classically-trained dancer versed in ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, and jazz funk. She was cast in Celine Dion’s A New Day and has appeared with Prince in his music video Betcha. Teaching and choreographing takes Malaya around the globe to countries such as New Zealand, Mexico, Australia, Italy, Japan, Canada, Korea, Switzerland, Brazil, Sweden, and Germany. Storytelling and translating life through art is what continues to bring her the grandest joy.
MICHAEL ANTOSY (Blake) is thrilled to be part of the world premiere of Dope Queens.
